Moving your BandHelper library to Setliner™
Export, import, and what to check afterwards.
For bands and gigging musicians who would rather pay once than subscribe. BandHelper is a subscription service (Basic, Plus and Pro, paid monthly or yearly, after a 30-day trial), and one subscription covers the whole band. Setliner™’s core app is free and needs no account; its optional features are one-time purchases.
Export from BandHelper
- On the BandHelper website, open Repertoire > Songs, select your songs and click Export ChordPro (admins only). Text styles with Map To ChordPro Style set export as section directives.
- For charts kept as attached PDFs, open the Documents page and use the Export button at the bottom of the page (admins only). It downloads all the documents in your account.
- For a list of every song, click Export at the bottom of the Songs page (admins only). You get a spreadsheet file; keep it as a checklist.
- For each set list, open Repertoire > Set Lists > the set list > Share Set List and save the PDF, so you have the song order.
Import into Setliner™
- Install Setliner™ and choose the folder your library will live in.
- In the Library, choose Import and select all the ChordPro files at once (.cho, .pro, .chopro or .txt).
- Import the PDFs the same way. For each one, Setliner™ asks whether to keep it as PDF pages or convert it into an editable chart.
- Rebuild each set list from the PDFs you saved in step 4 above. Setliner™ imports only its own set files, not BandHelper set lists.
What comes across / what to check
- Comes across from ChordPro: title, artist, subtitle, key, capo, tempo, time signature, tags, copyright, chords and lyrics, and sections marked as Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Intro, Outro, Pre-Chorus and similar.
- Check: which song fields BandHelper writes into its ChordPro export. A field it leaves out will be blank in Setliner™; fill it in from the spreadsheet.
- Check: songs whose BandHelper text styles were not mapped to a ChordPro style arrive without section labels.
- Check: a converted PDF against the original. A PDF kept as pages cannot be transposed.
- Does not come across: set lists, recordings, MIDI presets, and schedule, contact and finance data.
Features in BandHelper that are not currently in Setliner™
- Band management: contacts, finances and invoices, gig checklists and stage plots. Setliner™ Teams (free for up to five people with a license or an active trial; a team bundle adds seats) covers a roster, events and the roles each event needs.
- Backing tracks, click tracks and recordings played inside the app. Setliner™ lets you add links to a song, such as YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music or a local file, and opens them in the app you already use. It has a metronome, but does not play backing tracks or recordings itself.
- MIDI: bank and program changes, song select and beat clock sent to your gear.
- Use in a web browser as well as in its apps.
What you get in Setliner™
BandHelper also has some of these, such as transposing, auto-scroll and remote control.
- Windows, macOS, Linux and Android, with iPad coming.
- Songs are files in a folder you choose, and the free app works offline. Put that folder in a sync service you already use, such as Google Drive or OneDrive, and your devices share one library, with no Setliner™ account needed. Setliner™ has no sync service of its own: sync depends on that service and your platform.
- Back up and restore: Back up library in Settings saves your songs, setlists, marks, tags, play history and settings to one .slnbackup file, and Restore from backup shows what is inside before anything changes. Licenses are not included.
- Bring charts in as ChordPro, plain text or PDF, or paste them in. Change the key or add a capo and every chord follows.
- Tap any chord to see how to play it and hear how it sounds. Draw or write notes on a chart, as you would on paper.
- Build a set for the night with each song’s own key and sequence. The chart can scroll by itself, or a foot pedal turns the page and moves you through the set.
- Between gigs, a chord quiz, ear training and a metronome keep you sharp.
- The free app needs no account, and its core features have no time limit. Optional extras are one-time purchases, each with a 90-day free trial: Chord Builder names the chord for a shape on piano or a 4- to 7-string instrument in any tuning; Linked devices let one device lead others on the same local network, so the page turns on each linked device (each device needs Linked devices: its own trial or purchase, or a team seat); Popout displays send lyrics to extra screens for the singers or the room, or chords to the band, on a computer; Custom Skins, ten included themes plus your own pictures; and Practice, which listens as you play guitar and marks the chords it hears on the chart (it does not scroll or turn pages; Windows, macOS, Linux and Android). Trials and purchases need a verified email and a connection to start, then a check-in at least every 90 days. Purchases are not available to buyers in the EEA or the UK.
- Team bundles (5 or 10 Setliner Pro seats at a bulk price, bought once) include Teams at no extra charge, so a band or worship team can plan events, hand out roles and see who has said yes. The team service stores scheduling, not charts. Setliner Pro and the standard team bundles do not include Practice; bundles with Practice cost more (see Licensing and the prices).
