Bringing your SongSelect charts into Setliner™

Download, import, and what to check afterwards.

For worship teams and church musicians whose church subscribes to SongSelect and who want its chord sheets in a chart app. SongSelect is not an app you move away from: it is where the charts come from, and Setliner™ has no connection to it. You download each chart from SongSelect yourself, then import the file.

Download from SongSelect

  1. Sign in to SongSelect and open the song’s chord sheet.
  2. Download it as ChordPro if that is offered. CCLI says ChordPro is limited to SongSelect Premium subscribers, and that not every chord sheet is available in ChordPro. If you are asked for a format, CCLI’s help says to choose Notepad.
  3. If a chart has no ChordPro version, download the PDF instead.

Your CCLI terms still apply. SongSelect’s Terms of Use limit the service and its downloads to your church’s own non-commercial ministry, require a current Church Copyright License, and say not to remove or obscure any notice in the service. Keep imported charts for your church’s use, keep each song’s copyright notice, and report song use to CCLI as your license requires. Ask your church’s CCLI administrator if you are unsure what your license covers. Setliner™ keeps the files in your own library folder and does not change those terms.

Import into Setliner™

  1. Install Setliner™ and choose the folder your library will live in.
  2. In the Library, choose Import and select the files. The chooser lists .cho, .pro, .chopro and .txt; if a download has another extension, switch the chooser to All Files.
  3. Import the PDFs the same way. For each one, Setliner™ asks whether to keep it as PDF pages or convert it into an editable chart.

What comes across / what to check

  • Comes across from ChordPro: title, artist, subtitle, key, capo, tempo, time signature, tags, copyright, chords and lyrics, and sections marked as Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Intro, Outro, Pre-Chorus and similar.
  • Check: which details a SongSelect ChordPro file includes. A field it leaves out will be blank in Setliner™; fill it in by hand.
  • Check: that each chart still shows its copyright notice. A ChordPro copyright line goes into the song’s copyright; other lines stay in the chart text. A chart converted from a PDF may lose its footer, so add the notice back.
  • Check: a converted PDF against the original. A PDF kept as pages cannot be transposed.
  • Does not come across: anything in your SongSelect account. Only the files you download come across.

What stays in SongSelect

  • Finding songs and downloading them. Setliner™ has no SongSelect connection, so every chart is a file you download and import.
  • Usage reporting to CCLI. Setliner™ does not report songs to CCLI, so report them as your license requires.

What you get in Setliner™

  • Windows, macOS, Linux and Android, with iPad coming.
  • Songs are files in a folder you choose, and the free app works offline. Put that folder in a sync service you already use, such as Google Drive or OneDrive, and your devices share one library, with no Setliner™ account needed. Setliner™ has no sync service of its own: sync depends on that service and your platform.
  • Change the key or add a capo and every chord changes with it. Tap any chord to see how to play it and hear how it sounds. Draw or write notes on a chart, as you would on paper.
  • Build a setlist with each song’s own key and sequence. The chart can scroll by itself, or a foot pedal turns the page and moves you through the set.
  • Back up the whole library to one .slnbackup file with Back up library in Settings.
  • The free app needs no account, and its core features have no time limit. Optional extras are one-time purchases, each with a 90-day free trial; see Licensing and the prices. Trials and purchases need a verified email and a connection to start, then a check-in at least every 90 days. Purchases are not available to buyers in the EEA or the UK.
  • Teams cover a roster, events and the roles each event needs. With a license of your own, or an active trial, you can run one free team of up to five people (not in the EEA or UK). The team service stores scheduling, not charts.

Common questions

Can Setliner™ import ChordPro files from SongSelect?

Yes, if SongSelect gives you a ChordPro file for the song. CCLI says ChordPro downloads are limited to SongSelect Premium subscribers and that not every chord sheet has one. Setliner™ imports ChordPro files from the Library.

What if a SongSelect chart is only a PDF?

Import the PDF. Setliner™ asks whether to keep it as PDF pages or convert it into an editable chart. Check a converted chart against the original, and note that a PDF kept as pages cannot be transposed.

Does Setliner™ connect to my SongSelect account?

No. You download the files from SongSelect and import them yourself, under your church’s CCLI terms. Setliner™ does not report song use to CCLI.
